Dear Mr. Robinson,
I write to acknowledge with thanks
your letter of the 3rd May and note that the Crown Agents for the Colonies have been directed to pay £170 to me for the informer in the "Nishina Maru" opium seizure case and to accept my receipt as sufficient acknowledgment.
Further I note the Secretary of State': decision, should similar dases arise in future, to take no astion on information received, but to pass it on to this Office, unless time does not suffice to give the warning, in which case a telegram would be sent to the Governor of Hongkong before sending the information here with a
statement of the action taken; also that the Secretary of
State will fully acquaint the Governor of Hongkong with the facts in all cases in view of the possibility of a claim for reward arising.
I am asquainting the Inspector General
of Chinese Customs at Peking with the steps taken in this connection, and I feel sure he will greatly appreciate the
kindly assistance you have given us in the present issue
and also the proposed valuable co-operation, should other
occasions arise.
R. . Robinson, Esquire,
Colonial Office,
Downing Street,
S. T.
I remain,
Yours very truly,
#.
Secretary.
